Foreword:

“Gender equality and women empowerment are essential pillars for sustainable economic growth and social
progress. UNIDO recognizes the importance of integrating gender considerations within all aspects of the
manufacturing industry sector, ensuring that women not only participate but thrive in safe, inclusive, and
conducive work environments.

Under the Leather initiative for Sustainable Employment Creation (LISEC) project, we have worked diligently
from the inception of this initiative to impact in the leather value chain-conducting gender analysis study,
establishing gender working groups, training partners on gender-based violence prevention and response,
providing technical guidance for the setup of childcare facilities in Modjo’s footwear and leather goops
Micro, Small and Medium Sized Enterpries (MSME), and continuously monitoring progress to ensure
a sustainable impact.

This publication highlights the strides made in addressing gender-based job segregation by availing
modern technologies, fostering young women’s leadership skills, and creating decent work opportunities.
We extend our gratitude to all stakeholders whose dedication and collaboration have helped shape a
gender-responsive industrial sector. It is our hope that this document serves as both a reflection of our
achievements and a blueprint for further advancing gender equality across industries.”
